Chalupka Receives a Nurse Excellence Award from NECOEM

Stephanie Chalupka (Nursing) was the recipient of the 2011 Nurse Excellence Award at the annual meeting of the the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in December. This award was in recognition for her research in occupational and environmental health. The New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a regional component society of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the preeminent organization of occupational and environmental physicians in the United States.

Chalupka also presented “Climate Change: Health Impact and Catholic Mission” at a nationally broadcast webinar sponsored by the Catholic Health Association of the United States. She discussed the impacts of climate change (including extreme weather, infectious disease and air and water quality) on human health, the cost of climate change impacts (including costs of asthma and poor birth outcomes), and opportunities for health care providers in clinical practice and disaster preparedness. The Catholic Health Association of the Unites States is comprised of more than 600 hospitals and 1,400 long-term care and other health facilities in all 50 states. It is the largest group of non-profit health care providers in the nation.

In addition, she is the author of Internet-based Outpatient Telerehabilitation Following Total Knee Arthroplasty, which was recently published in the Journal of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses.
